"It's a bartender's paradise," says Dave, one of the bartenders at the Taverns @ Phipps. He has been tending the bar for nearly 5 years in his 8-year bartending career.
Tavern @ Phipps is known for their 'little show' that bartenders perform just to entertain their customers. Dave is one of the bartenders who passed the audition to come work for Tavern @ Phipps to perform at the bar. "This bar is the greatest. They actually let me do what I want to do," says Dave, as he prepares for his first show that he's about to perform. He makes a couple of Blue Hawaiians, which contains Blue Curacao, Malibu Rum, and Pineapple Juice. Before you know it, the show is on and his assistant bartender steps onto the bar supporting Dave holding 5 glasses of Blue Hawaiians.
Another show he does actually has a title "Lifesaver shot." He pours three different kinds of drinks into multiple glasses all at once. Each drink is a vodka-based coloured drink: Blue comes from Blue Curacao, red is from Grenadine and Midori give a drink green colour. By the time he builds up his glass-castle (see the picture), his audience is ready for the action. It's quite impressive to look at each coloured drink going into different glasses all at once see the pictures.
What surprises me is that the bartenders don't seem to care about breaking glasses throughout the show. Dave once broke 72 glasses in the past and the bar managers don't care about the loss.
This sort of performance can be expected any nights at Taverns. Friday is the busiest night. The crowd is usually from 30s ñ 50s. Live piano music is served throughout the weekend nights. The bar is quite swanky, but those bartenders make a difference from the other bars in Atlanta area. Those 'little shows' definitely open up the bar to people by bringing everybody together. If you don't want to be bothered by it, there are many tables available in a back of the bar. I should also mention that their dinner is worth trying.
Known as one of the Atlanta's swanky bars, people most order Martini drinks: cosmopolitan, apple martini and vodka martini. By brands, Skyy, Finlandia, Jonny Walker and Dewar's are the popular ones.
