Aberlour Distillery Photo Gallery
Aberlour distillery is located in the heart of Speyside's Malt Whisky Trail in Scotland. It takes about an hour from the Aberdeen and Inverness airports to get to the distillery by car. From Edinburg, it may take about four hours by car through the A9 highway.
It is recommended to make an appointment in advance before visiting this distillery. Distillery tour takes about 45 minutes. After learning the history of Aberlour distillery in a small exhibition area, enjoy the whisky tasting with Alan Winchester, distiller manager in a tasting room.
The distillery produces 10 Year Old, 15 Year Old and A'bunadh (prounced a-boon-ah). A'bunadh means "the origin" in Gaelic and is available in the United States for about sixty dollars for a 750ml bottle.
Aberlour distillery uses water from the Spey Valley. Forty thousand litres of pure spring water is heated to 154 degrees with 13 tons of malted barley in the mash ton, producing 66,000 litres of wort in each mash. Eventually 5,000 litres of pure alcohol is produced.
The distillery is able to store 27,000 barrels in the warehouses. Each barrel sleeps in used American bourbon barrels for more than 10 years though the Scottish highland climate.
