Sunday 4:00 PM - My first day at ABC Bartending School. I am attending quick one-week program, which I will be here from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM or so for the rest of the week. ABC Bartending School also offers two-week program, evening program and weekend programs. Each program comes with a 75-page textbook, which explains more than what we cover in a class. It even has drills for each chapter. I found it very useful.
My instructor, Mick has almost 7 years of bartending experience and has managed a couple bars. In the State of Georiga, it requires a minimum of two years of bartenidng experience to become a bartending instuctor. Requirements would differ from State to State. He used to be a full-time bartneder and is now teaching at a school and bartends couple nights at a local sports bar. "Being behind a bar is about being confident. I'm completely a different person when I come behind a bar," says Mick.
There are only two students including myself. He drives from out of the State just to come to the school. He is a personal trainer in a small town and is willing to learn basic bartending techniques in order to earn extra money on the weekends. > > >
In Day 1, we covered bar structure, barware & glassware, basic pouring techniques and how to mix Martini drinks. It was quite a lot to learn in one day, especially for a person like myself with almost zero knowledge of bartending. "First two classes are the hardest," explains Mick. ABC Bartending School keeps its maximum numbers of 12 students in each class in order to give each student plenty of chance to ask questions during the session.
