   day 1

Garnish

Bartenders use garnish for two purposes: for flavouring and for decoration. Garnish makes a difference in taste for cocktails with simple ingredients such as Martini drinks. Some may prefer a lemon twist instead of traditional cocktail olives. As we learned earlier in this program, a bartender should ask if a customer would like an olive or a lemon twist when taking an order.

Besides fruits, there are many other items you can use to decorate a drink: celery sticks for Bloody Mary, cinnamon powder for Irish Coffee, little cocktail umbrella for tropical cocktails.

Basics are a twist, wheel and a wedge. 'Flag' is a combination of orange slice and a cherry.

Many cocktail drinkers say that a cocktail should be enjoyed by its taste, its texture and its colour.
