Tropical cocktails and cream drinks are often sweet and sometimes it's hard to tell if there's any alcohol in it. Many experience hangover after overdrinking these sweets such as Long Island Ice Tea, which contains alcohol more than you can imagine, Vodka, Gin, Rum, White Tequila, Triple Sec mixed with bar mix and splash of cola.
"You're not
supposed to taste the alcohol in blended drinks," says Mick. If a customer insists for alcohol taste, he
suggests that a bartender should add Gin or Myer's Rum.
Grenadine is often used in tropical drinks. It gives a drink not only a sweet
taste, but also reddish colour.
Tropical drinks are often served in a collins glass with a long big straw.
Some exotic bars may
serve tropical cocktails in specialty glasses with the fruit garnishes. Some bars may make their Pina Colada or Strawberry Daiquiri with the Bar Mixes that are available
at local supermarkets.
The instant cocktail-mixers can be used for cocktails such as Margarita, Pina Colada and Bloody Mary.
Cream drinks are basically the drinks mixed with Half & Half. They are usually
easy to mix, yet have several unique ways to serve. Sombrero (or Kahlua & Cream) can be served
with three liquid layers. Using the weight of each liquid, first add the heaviest Kahlua, then tilt a glass
slightly, and add Half and Half carefully not to disturb the surface of Kahlua layer. Third layer would be the
whipped cream.
Liqueurs such as Kahlua, Amaretto, Bailey's Irish Cream are often used in cream cocktails. They are also
popular liqueurs in the United States.
