Ingredients (makes 10 servings):
"Tonic's version of this punch is a play on Duncan Nichol's famous pisco punch; a specialty in the 1880's at his Bank Exchange bar in San Francisco. The Tonic version substitutes Cachaca for the pisco."
- 1.5 cups Cachaca
- 6 cups Non-sweetened Pineapple Juice (extra flavor and points to leave a few fresh basil leaves in the fresh juice overnight before adding to the punch)
- 2.25 oz Simple Syrup
- 1.5 oz Fresh-squeezed Lemon Juice
- 4 Dashes Aromatic Bitters
Combine all ingredients in a large container. Cover and let sit overnight. Serve in a punch bowl with one large block of ice. Serve over the ice to ensure each serving is properly chilled and diluted.
1.5 cups Calvados (Apple Brandy)
6 cups Apple Cider (extra flavor and points to use mulled cider)
1.5 oz Fresh-squeezed Lemon Juice
1.5 oz Honey (diluted with water)
4 Droppers Fig Bitters or Aromatic Bitters
Combine all ingredients in a large container. Cover and let sit overnight. Serve in a punch bowl with one large block of ice. Serve over the ice to ensure each serving is properly chilled and diluted.
Please consider the follow tips from the Distilled Spirits Council to ensure everyone enjoys the festivities responsibly:
1. Keep an eye on how much everyone is drinking. Remember - alcohol is alcohol. It is important to understand that a standard drink of regular beer (12 ounces), wine (five ounces), and a cocktail (containing 1.5 fluid ounces of 80-proof spirits) each contains the same amount of alcohol, 0.6 fluid ounces of alcohol.
2. Make sure that you provide food to complement your cocktails. Consider food pairings to enhance your chosen cocktails: fresh seafood and breads accentuate vodka cocktails, spiced and smoked meats and cheeses complement whiskey, and rum's flavors are enhanced by a variety of citrus fruits.
3. Be sure to have plenty of non-alcohol beverages available for your guests. Try creating a festive non-alcohol punch or homemade soda for those guests who choose not to drink beverage alcohol.
4. Make sure your guests have a safe way home either through designated drivers or a taxi - when possible, coordinate transportation in advance.
